The Missouri Compromise

In 1803, Thomas Jefferson purchased 828,000 acres of land for over 11 million dollars known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Purchase of the lands helped the nation socially and economically, but it also brought new challenges for people within the states and even within the government.

Each state that is annexed in the United States has to settle wether it is a free or slave state. Before the Missouri Compromise the slave states and free states equalled eachother, therefore they had equal representation in the senete and so one party does not overpower another.

This allows for every party in the government and even common people to have closure so that a civil dispute does not break out. After the purchase of land Louisiana was accepted as a slave state this equalled the balence until Missouri wanted to enter state hood and declare itself a slave state. This would mean unequal representation which both parties knew it was a key factor in keeping the issue of slaves in order.

This issue remained until Main wanted to declare statehood as a free state, but many argued if Maine is wants to be a free state then Missouri should be a slave state. This was officially known as the Missouri Compromise, Maine is a free state and Missouri is a slave state.

With this no slavery in the other states outside the Louisiana purchase can be allowed. Even though this was a short solution to a big problem it calmed people down about the split between free and not free states.

It was a way for the senate to diffuse the situation of slavery for little time and it also set a new stage in Senate history. Before the Missouri compromise the House of Representatives would overstep the Senate and cast a shadow over them.

Later on Henry Clay who served in the senate moved to the House of Representatives and was elected speaker of the house. Henry Clay oversaw the Missouri Compromise first hand when it was first introduced to him.

The House appealed for Missouri to come in as a no slavery state while the Senate wanted missouri to be a slave state, therefor both sides were at a stalemate. Since there was a stalemate the issue died at first but then reopened in 1820 where Henry Clay was the one to create the compromise that Maine should be a free state and Missouri will be allowed to have slavery.

Pro slavery advocates wanted to change the compromise to benefit themselves but Clay sneakily signed the compromise and sent it to the Senate to be approved. Henry Clay founded the new era of the Senate because he sparked up new debates and helped create pro Union compromises.

Let Them be Free

First off I want to start my claim stating that slavery is morally and ethicaly wrong. As it stands slavery is allowed and is not brought up in the constitution which needs to be addressed. The actions that the south are doing to black people is morally and physically degrading and are not even viewed as people, but as property. The cruelty of what is preceding in the states have to be stopped.

From the awful hanus punishments to the degrading words. I make my stand clear about slavery as working with the abolitionist movement we have done more than any group could.

Although slavery is wrong on the highest level and agree that all men are created equal I still do not find that black and white people should not have the same social and political standing, but I do agree like most people that black people should have a the right to work and condition themselves the same as a white man.

To help free the black population of slavery I propose a solution to free all slaves and send them away into their own colony. This would swiftly end the process of slavery and end the degrading acts that they are being put through.

If this act does not get put through it is not the end of the world as I will advocate for the blacks and do anything in my power to set them free from slavery, even if it mean letting them join the military and help us fight against the south which can help their case in the battle for slavery.

I also want to make it clear that I do not have anything against the people of the south, just against their actions.

If we were all brought up the way they were and brought up with slavery we all would do the same, but if this continues more people will expand into new states and bring slavery along the way which is politicaly and socialy unexeptable as it will bring more slave states and then the battle will be lost. We will do everything in our power to stop the spread by freeing slaves in the north and having them fight for us, while this happens it will decrease the work force and population of the south to where they can no longer fight.

As I said before, I do not see black people in this country as equal but I do feel for them as they were brought here against their own will and were stripped from their normal lives back in their homes. To sum up my ideas and my position on slavery, I started sying salvery is morally and ethically wrong and I will end on saying it.

Actions by the south will not be condoned by any state who thinks so and if they do then they are helping the process of slavery. The act of salvery will always be heinous but that does not mean that blacks should have equal status as they are not true founders of this land and are an alien race where they are not socially equal.

Slavery and the Bible

Slavery has been around since the beginnign of the bible. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments there are multiple passages that speak about the topic of slavery. Although slavery has been talked about for such a long time, slavery is not perceived the same from way back then to now.

Slavery was both condemmed as well condomed at one point and viewed differently from each religion. Specifcily one relgion that has encountered the attention of slavery ample times is Christianity. The pespective of slavery throughout the Chrtistian relgion has evolved and adaptived over a long period of time.

In the Chritsian religion slavery was seen as an act of chairty often. Christians seemed to have a sort of kindness towards slavery, possibly even as a way to reedeem a “sin”. The perspective of slavery varied for each religon as well region and is heavvily impacted from the enviformental influences over nearly eighteen centirues.

In the new testament Christ never mentions or talks about how slavery and making a man or
woman property is a sin. So called slaves in the Bible were mentioned nothing more than hired servants, or workers.

The new testament also talks freely about roman slavery, therefor the slavery that the new testiment talks about is white slavery of the romans. Back when slavery was acceptable, people interpreted the Bible in many different ways and this made people think that slavery was acceptable due to the Bible.

The Supreme Court

The Supreme Court, to start is the most powerful court in the country. It overpowers every other court, including appellate courts and district courts. The Supreme Court also has the power to strike down any law that violates the constitution.

The court consists of one Chief Justice and eight other associate justices. They are appointed to their job by the president of the United States and when appointed each justice is in the court for life until they pass, resign, retire, or are removed from office. If this does occur the current president will appoint a new justice.

The Supreme Court also has the power to accept any case it is given, over 7,000 cases are submitted by, common people, to prisoners and every one is taken into account and reviewed individually.

With hearing cases, the court also overlooks every other branch in the government to see if they are breaking any constitutional law. If any constitutional law is broken the court has the final say.

The Supreme Courts decisions on laws affect the American people a lot more than you think, they have the power to take away laws that are unconstitutional for the people and also have the right to protect your natural rights.
